Ford, Lindsey, and Luke

So difficult to blog!

It has been so long...but I do have many good reasons why!

1. Our computer died. We think it had the swine flu, but a guy name Joe fixed it and it survived, although it is not quite the same.

2. Our camera may have also contracted the swine flu. It still works occassionally, but is definitely not reliable.

3. Ford is working in OKC, so I am playing single mommy during the week...not the easiest thing I've ever done.

4. Our house is for rent/sale, so that involves cleaning frequently so that it is ready for showings...yuck.

5. I am pregnant, and feel very yucky! (quite the surprise :)

Sooo, now that's out of the way, here is what we have been up to:

Luke had his first birthday!! He was a tad cranky because he had an ear infection, but all of his friends came and it was a really good time!

We have spent a lot of time at parks, pools, the zoo, and anything to get us out of the house. Ford comes home every weekend which has been great!

Luke was also dedicated at our church on mother's day.

Friends and Family

This weekend, courtesy of some of our amazing friends, Ford and I will be spending our first night away from the baby! I am so excited!! We are staying at the Gaylord Texan which I have never been to. I can't wait to eat alone, and sleep in, and not have to worry about the baby! He will be having a blast at my sister's house and I am sure he will feel like he is on vacation too since he will probably be spoiled rotten :).
I must admit that we have not done the best job at creating time for just "us" since Luke was born, so this will be a much needed get away. We have the most amazing group of friends and I love them all dearly.

This weekend is also TWO more very special birthdays!! Happy birthday to Judie, aka Grandmommy, and to Sheryl, aka Nana!! Luke sent a special work of art to you, which will probably be late as usual.

Ford is contemplating many different career moves, and praying to see what God has in store for us. He is looking into some missions oriented work, or ministry as well as continuing to look in the construction industry. We feel very blessed to have our amazing family, friends, and know that God will provide for us.

The weather has been wonderful lately! It has been slightly warm and sunny, except for the crazy wind. Luke has loved getting to go to the park, the lake, and play outside.

Luke LOVED the lake. The water was freezing, but he kept wanting to walk in it and even sit in it. I think he would have crawled right into the lake if we would have let him.

Luke and Ford played outside with his tools, so he could be just like dad.

Luke started really trying to walk this week. He takes about 4-5 steps now before he falls. He tries to run everytime he walks. He loves to sing, clap, and play peekaboo.

Luke is loving having Ford home, but for Ford and I, it is not quite as much fun. Ford is still looking for a job. I am looking also. He has been applying for jobs all over the country, and we know that God has a plan for us, we just aren't sure what that is yet. Please keep praying for us. We love living here, and can't imagine moving or leaving our amazing group of friends...but we are trying to keep an open mind to hear God's plan for our lives.

First Haircut

Last weekend, Luke had his first haircut. It took about 3 snips, and really just got some weird long spots trimmed up, but he sure looked cute!

He did great and just stared at her everytime she tried get his hair. Now there is a reason why he is not wearing any clothes...My mom came to visit this day, and we went to pick her up at the airport with Aunt Casey. We parked and went inside to wait by the baggage claim. On the way in, I noticed that Stinker was quite stinky. So we went in the airport bathroom while we were waiting to change him. Now, of course the bathroom was not the most pleasant place to change him. Well needless to say, this was one of those diapers that for whatever reason appears to have exploded. Socks, undershirt, pants, sweater, every article of clothing was completely unwearable. The only thing salvaged was his jacket. Did I mention that it was like 45 degrees outside??? So we go to wait for Nana in the airport after a pretty traumatic diaper change (especially for Aunt Casey who stoically stood by her nephew despite the grossness) wearing only a diaper and a jacket. Of course, being the great mother that I am, you would expect me to have a change of clothes in the diaper bag right? Or at least in the car....well that was not the case. Soooo, since Casey and I had been desperate to get our hair done, our hair appt. was immediatly after Nana's arrival. So we went straight to the salon and all got our hair done, Luke with no clothes on. But we all survived and our hair looks wonderful!!

On the move

Let's not discuss how long it has been...instead of going backwards, I will just start from here. If anyone wants pics from the last month or so I can email them to you.

Luke is now 9 months old and he has changed sooo much lately. Within a couple of weeks, he began crawling, then pulling up, then standing alone, and then walking along furniture and with a walker. He is everywhere now! He can stand alone for several minutes. He claps for himself all of the time and plays pattycake. He gives high fives and can play catch with a ball. He can feed himself pretty well and loves almost all food. He is still small, only in the 25th percentile, but is very strong. He has 7 teeth!! In the beginning of Feb. he had his first ear infection...which I didn't know about until the dr. told me.
He talks all the time. He says "dada" whenever he sees Ford and "mama" whenever he is upset or hungry :). He mimicks almost any sound and says "d" for dog and "b" for ball and bye. He waves bye also.
He is such a happy boy, and we are so lucky to have him!!

For Ford and I, this has been a personally difficult week. Ford lost a friend, Michael, in a car accident last week, which was extremely sudden and heart breaking. We know that he is with his Savior in heaven, and Ford is so grateful to have known him and been blessed by him.

This week, Ford was laid off from his job at Neiman Marcus along with 450 other people. Please be in prayer for all those looking for work, and for the Fisk family who lost Michael last week.

And if anyone is in need of a good construction/project manager, let us know!

Getting ready for Christmas!

So after Thanksgiving, we decided it was time to get this sleep thing under control. We started letting him cry it out at night...which we had unsuccessfully tried before. But we were desperate this time...and success!! After about a week of torture listening to him cry, he now goes right to sleep without really crying. He still wakes up sometimes, but after all of the traveling and sleeping in strange beds, what can you expect. It will be back to strict parents after New years!! So now he generally sleeps from 8-5 and eats at 5 and sleeps until 7 or so.

He is doing so well with eating, he'll eat anything! One of his favorite jars of food is Spinach and Potatoes!

Back to the holidays...

Thanksgiving

Oh I am so far behind!!! One of my new year's resolutions is to keep up with this again...but first I have to catch up!! We have traveled so much the last two months....

First we went to OKC to the OU/TT game (which was awesome). Ford's parents watched Luke for us, which was also awesome.

Then we went back to OKC, then to Bville for Thanksgiving.

I was bad about taking pictures at Thanksgiving...probably because Luke didn't sleep hardly at all the whole trip!! It was pretty stressful because Ford and I were sooo tired.

I am once again, getting behind in keeping everyone updated. (Sorry Scott at Neiman Marcus who should be working right now) The days go by so fast, and Luke is changing everyday. This week Luke got his first tooth, the day after I took him to the doctor to find out why he wouldn't sleep!! Then he started to say "da da da da", not exactly his first word, but it's still pretty cool and he says it a lot more when Ford is around. When my mom and Casey were here, we gave him his first bath in the big bath tub. He loved getting to sit there and play with toys and didn't even mind when I accidentally poured water on his face.

Everyday I thank God for giving me this little guy. I am so blessed!!

We took a great weekend trip with the Duncan/Ryan side of the family. We went to a cabin in the Arbuckle mountains and it was so much fun. The place was beautiful and very relaxing!!

There was even a hot tub, which you know Ford loved!!

The Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumkin patch in Flower Mound. It was so fun. The place is great, They have hay rides, train rides, hay mazes, kettle corn, tons of pumpkins, face painting, and of course food and they don't charge for anything except pumpkins and food! Luke had a blast and we took tons of pictures. What is it about babies and pumpkins that is so darn cute?!

I love fall!! I love the cool weather, pumpkin carving, leaves changing, and everything about it...except my allergies always go crazy!

I have been told that all I talk about on here is Luke...well that is true. But does that surprise anyone? :)

Noah and Megan

I am currently watching two kids who live next door and down the street. Noah, who I have watched his whole live, and Megan who is in 3rd grade. We have so much fun, and it doesn't even feel like I should be paid to watch them.
I got Noah a pumpkin at the farmer's market and he carried it around all day.

Megan is a cheerleader and wore her homecoming ribbon to school today. She is so sweet.

OU/ Texas!!

We had so much fun going to the OU/Texas football game. First of all, our tickets were completely free!! The best way to go to any sporting event if you ask me! Then, the people who gave us the tickets, also hooked us up with a limo to take us and pick us up. It was so awesome to not have to deal with parking or traffic!! The game was sooo crowded and pretty hot when the sun was shining on us, but very exciting. The outcome was not what we were hoping for, but it was still great to get away.

Luke stayed with his aunt Casey and Uncle Dustin, which made the whole thing possible because I wouldn't have trusted anyone else with him!! They are awesome! He didn't even cry once the whole day with them. Although I was sad when I left him, it was great to have a day away and not worry about him being taken care of! Thanks guys!!

Trip to Oklahoma

We took a trip to see our family again. We had a brief but fun stop for Luke to see his Grandmommy and Grandaddy. He also got to see his Aunt Allison and cousins. He and Brooks are going to have so much fun when they are old enough to play together. And of course Ruthie will be in charge of both of them!

We went from there to Bartlesville. There is a slideshow of pictures from that trip to the side. The drive wasn't too bad since it was broken up with stops in OKC, but by the end Luke wanted out of his car seat and was not afraid to tell us how mad he was! It was well worth it though! We love seeing family, and after having him have realized how much we miss all of them and wish that we lived closer to all of them! Especially so they could babysit :)

I know I know!! It has been sooo long. We have been super busy lately and I just haven't been able to sit down and work on this or anything else it feels like!

Luke has obviously been exhausted by all of this as well...

I have a lot to catch up on. We have had sooo much fun this last month. Luke is growing so much and is so much fun right now. He is so happy and plays and laughs all of the time.

My only complaint...no sleep! He doesn't seem to need to take naps or sleep more than 5-6 hours at a time at night! There are days where he only sleeps 30 minutes all day long. Another reason why I haven't been able to update lately. I hope it is just his teeth, and he will begin sleeping better soon.

He is still adorable and doesn't seem phased by the little sleep. Here he is in his rocker jacket from grandma george.

Nana and Grandpa

Luke got to spend a short but fun weekend with his Nana and Grandpa. He is so blessed to have so many grandparents who love him so much. We only wish that they were all closer so he could spend more time with them!
They even babysat for us while we went to Lifegroup, which gave them some quality time with him. He rarely spends any time away from us, so this was great for him.

We are so excited for the next couple of months. We are going to Oklahoma next weekend to see Ford's parents and my grandma. Then in November my dad is coming from Australia, and of course we will see the Oklahoma family again at Thanksgiving. We love spending time with our family.

We had a fun and exciting weekend! Luke is so energetic and fun lately. He is teething, so that adds new fun to the mix. He is doing ok, but decided to boycott naps and sleeping some of the time. He has gotten very good at controlling his hands and loves to put anything and everything in his mouth. He loves to pull hair, crumble up paper, and touch everything! He is sitting up great, still wobbles some, and tries to scoot on his tummy. He is eating carrots, sweet potato, banana, and peas and will soon try butternut squash and applesauce. He definitly knows who his mom and dad are, and is starting to not want to be left with strangers, like at church.

I used to babysit Melody and Madison, and was Melody's preschool teacher. They are such sweet little girls. They came over on Saturday to have lunch and play with Luke. They were around when I was pregnant, and Melody felt Luke kick several times. Luke loved them and had so much fun. I enjoyed getting to hang out with them again.

Saturday afternoon, we had Taylor's birthday party. It was a pool party, which Luke loved! He was a little tired, but he always likes hanging out in the water. All of the other kids had a blast playing in the pool and with all of the toys.

We had to leave the party early to go to Uncle Dustin's baptism. We were so excited for him!! He and several other members of their church shared their testimony and were baptized. Their church is great and we love their pastor. He is an amazing speaker with so much passion.

Luke was not such a big fan of the nursery and I got called out. But their church has a cry room with a TV monitor of the service, which is so nice. I wish our church had that. After we went to dinner with Casey and Dustin and his family, and my mom and step dad who all came down for the baptism. It was a great, but very long day.

Of course when we got home, Ford had to watch the OU game so it was a late night!

After several days of rice cereal, we discovered that Luke loves to eat! He can't get it fast enough, and cries when it is gone. He really loves eating and keeps most of it in his mouth, not that you can tell from the pictures :)

We have now tried carrots and peas, and he loved them both. I had a great plan to take food really slowly because of Ford's food allergies, but he is already to the point where he cries when he sees us eating, and wants to eat anything we give him.

I am making his baby food whenever possible, which is somewhat ironic because I used to give my friend Carrie Baker a hard time for making her daughter's baby food! Now I really enjoy it and it saves so much money!

Next he will try sweet potato and after a week or two of vegetables, we'll do banana, apple, and avocado. We are watching very carefully for food allergies, but so far so good!!

We fed Luke his first solid food yesterday. We started him with just a tablespoon of rice cereal, and he loved it! He ate every drop and acted like he knew what he was doing. Because of Ford's food allergies, we will start off really slowly adding new foods, but the doctor said that solids should help with the reflux. He also slept 8 hours last night!

4 months old!!

Today Luke is 4 months old!! We are so happy and thrilled to be his parents. I can't believe he is growing up so fast! He is so fun now. He laughs and smiles all of the time. He lights up when his daddy walks into the room. He loves to make gurgly noises and blow bubbles with his lips. He LOVES to watch TV (just like his mama), he stares at it anytime it is on and even smiles and laughs at it. He likes to read books and pays very close attention when you read to him. He likes to play with his hands and chew on them. He has so much fun in his exersaucer. He always wants to stand up, never lay down. He wants to see what's going on. When he lays on his tummy, he tries to scoot, and can a little bit but usually falls on his face!

To mark his 4 month birthday, he has started to sit up!! He is not great at balancing, but can do it alone for a minute or two. He uses his arms to support himself, and usually ends up falling over. Before you know it, he will be crawling! We are so proud of him.

Gameday

This weekend was the first weekend of college football!! The first real game was last weekend, but it was only on PPV so we didn't watch it. For us, football season means that most every Saturday is spent watching OU, eating lots of great food, and me begging Ford to turn off ESPN by the end of the day.

Luke was of course supporting the sooners with his clothes, bib, burp rag, pacifier, and socks!!

We watched the game over at the Tates' house and had a great time. Although this no dairy diet sure puts a damper on my game day eating!!

Ford is so glad to have a little buddy to watch the games with. Later this season, we have tickets to two games. Luke is sure to enjoy that!

By the way, OU won if anyone didn't see the game!

We had a big weekend this weekend. My mom and brother James came to visit from Oklahoma, and, my sister Casey and brother in law Dustin came over. We all spent the weekend together and had a great time.

Saturday night, our neighborhood had a block party that was a lot of fun!

Aunt Casey and Luke spent some quality time...

Nana and Aunt Casey argued over who got to play with Luke the most!! He is very loved.

We all went shopping at the mall, and Luke was worn out...

We had a lot of fun and Luke was, as usual, such a good boy. He does so well when we are out and loves watching people.

It is amazing what you will do to hear your child laugh. It's also amazing what they seem to think is funny. Luke's favorite things to laugh at are early 90's rap music, usually performed by mom and dad (specific favorites are Vanilla Ice and Fresh Prince of BelAire), dad talking like the teacher from Charlie Brown, and making funny noises with your mouth and tongue.

Today, Luke and I went to the pool with Noah and Misty and Joanna and Kadence. Joanna and Kadence are visiting from Colorado. It brought back great memories because I used to watch Kadence and Noah when they were babies.

Now they are so big!!

Luke visits Downtown Dallas

Yesterday, Luke went to Dallas to visit Dad at work. He was quite the charmer. He smiled and cooed at all of the women, and threw up on dad's work shirt. He made the rounds and then we went and ate lunch. Ford's office building has this tunnel system underneath which leads to other buildings, all of which have quite a few lunch places. Luke loved all of the people and stuff to look at. He had a great time.

After the visit, we went to the Doctor. They increased his medicine, since he now weighs 12 lbs!! He has gotten so big! They think that should do the trick. He seems to be sleeping better and feeling a little better already thanks to some tips from Misty, who had to become an expert on reflux when Noah had it. In the evening, we had dinner with friends. Since everyone else already blogged about that, you can see Misty's and Joanna's blogs with pictures from that fun evening and all of the kids together!!

Aunt Casey came and hung out this weekend. Luke loves to play with her and Uncle D (as Ford likes to call Dustin) and I love having someone else entertain him and she even changes diapers!! We went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, Frescos and had a great time. We wish that we lived closer to them!!

Reflux

Luke has reflux. Everyone always says, oh all babys spit up...but it's more than that. It hurts him, and when he was very little, he had trouble gaining weight because he spit everything back up. He had been doing a lot better, but lately we have noticed he has been in more pain. Actually we weren't sure what was wrong...teething, ears, tired...but we think now it is the reflux and are on our way back to the dr. today. He is such a mellow, happy baby that we know if he is fussy very often, then something is hurting him. Hopefully they can just adjust his medicine and he will be feeling much better. We finally realized that he needed to sleep sitting up, and last night he slept great in his swing, since laying down on his back was hurting him a lot. I'll update after the dr.

Noah brought over his baby doll today. With his cute little bald head, I thought he looked just like Luke and his bald head. He actually has hair, it is just so blonde that you can't really see it. ( I don't know why the pictures are coming out sideways...but it is making me very angry!!)

Couponing

Couponing...that's right, it's a verb now. After a seminar at church, a bunch of my friends and I have started "couponing". It may sound silly, but it is quite complicated and involved. There are charts, fliers, binders filled with baseball card holders, and hours of clipping, analyzing, planning, and finally shopping. We aren't sure yet if this is going to pay off, but at first report I saved $55 and paid $120...not too bad my first time out. And although the night of clipping coupons with the girls wasn't all for fun, it was nice to have a night to sit and chat while we scoured the newpapers. I wonder if someday I will look back at this time in my life and laugh that I got so excited to find a coupon for a free loaf of bread? But for now that was pretty exciting. So that you can get a full picture of how involved this is, I will show you my binder of coupons...as nerdy as it is!!

Growing up so fast!!

Luke is growing up so fast!! He loves to stand up, and he is so strong. He loves to play with his friend Noah. He can roll over, stand holding your hands, and laughs a lot. He is also sleeping really well. He usually goes to bed around 10, then doesn't wake up until 5 or 6 am. Then he sleeps again until 8 or 9. It is so great to get that much sleep. It isn't too bad waking up so early, since he is always so happy and smiley at 5 am. I can't believe he is already 3.5 months old!! It's going by way too fast.

We left Luke for the first time Friday to go out to dinner. I have left him to go to the grocery store and errands, but this was the first official night out. He stayed with the Tate's and did great. You can click on the link to the Tate family blog to the right and read all about it. She even took pictures!! Ford and I went and ate at Joe's Crab Shack. It was fun and I ended up with more crab on me than in me.

Luke has had so much fun this summer. He has been to the pool several times and really enjoys it. He doesn't exactly play yet...but he loves being outside and watching his friends play. Don't worry grandparents, we always use sunscreen!!

Luke Goes to Bartlesville

I am blogging in reverse order, since I got behind. We went to Bartlesville at the end of July. This marked a lot of firsts for Luke. His first plane ride, his first trip to Bartlesville, and his first time meeting his great grandma George and Great grandmother Reed and Pop. The whole trip was very smooth. He was great on the plane and thanks to Aunt Casey, the airport wasn't too difficult at all. Luke loved seeing all of his family again at Nana's house and meeting new friends and family. He is such a laid back little guy that he just went with the flow. He missed his daddy, who had to stay back in Texas to work.

Luke meets his cousin

Luke's cousin Brooks was born a couple of weeks ago, and last weekend Luke got to meet him. He seems so small, even though Luke was that size just a couple of months ago. Brooks has a full head of hair and is totally adorable. They are going to cause lots of trouble together as they grow up!!

Luke also got to spend some quality time with his Gran-mommy, Gran-daddy, Aunt Allison, Uncle Kelly, and Cousin Ruthie.

On the way home, we stopped at Turner Falls for Luke to eat. It was a great weekend.

Ok...so I am going to try to start blogging. We all know I am awful at checking my email, so this will be a challenge. Once I get the hang of it, hopefully I can stay on top of it.
